Description: The Pruitt Trailhead has about 1 acre of fenced parking, horse water and a trough as well as a port-o-potty – there is no potable water. Additional equestrian parking is available at the nearby SWFWMD parking area.
The Pruitt section, also called Valhalla, has about 16 miles of equestrian singletrack as well as about 3.5 miles of the multi-use limerock road which is suitable for riding or driving if your horses have shoes. 4 short sections of linear diggings resulting from the historic ship canal make for some challenging terrain with short but steep sandy ups and downs. Trail 1 is about 6 miles and travels through sand hill communities & mosaic oak hammocks in between following the northern edge of the south berm in the diggings, trail 2 is a little over 9 miles and takes a longer route through similar terrain including some sections that may be under water, trail 3 options are present in the digging sections and present the most challenging terrain. All trails converge with the multi-use trail (which is natural surface west of this intersection) ¾ mile east of the trailhead.
Equestrians may also access trails in the adjacent Halpata Tastanaki Preserve (SWFWMD property) from this trailhead.
Please note that SR 200, which forms the eastern border of this section of the Greenway, is a high speed road unsuitable for crossing with horses. Please use the Ross Prairie Trailhead to access trails east of SR 200.
